Akwa Ibom State has announced some cases of cholera outbreak with symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, which has claimed some lives in Emeroke community, Obolo East Local Government Area.
Health officials reportedly visited some secondary health centers in the state to ascertain the exact number of cases as a result of the disease.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr Patrick Essiet, who confirmed the outbreak in a statement made available to the media, said the state epidemiologist had been sent to the community to initiate information campaigns on ways to mitigate the outbreak. .
“The Ministry of Health warns members of the community and its surroundings that as an immediate intervention, adequate hand washing should be carried out, especially after defecating, boiling drinking water before consumption and all people with symptoms of diarrhea or vomiting. They should seek immediate attention. treatment at the nearest health center.
“Furthermore, the Ministry reminds community leaders to enforce the current ban on open defecation imposed by the Government.
“While the state government is working on a long-term solution, the Ministry is mobilizing supplies to the community as an immediate and short-term measure.”
He advised the public to report all suspected cases of cholera to the director of public health at the state health ministry.
