Musician and activist Charly Boy shared a touching story about how the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, saved his music career back in 1981 when he came back to Nigeria from the United States.
Charly Boy mentioned this in a heartfelt tribute to the late Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General, who passed away at the age of 82.
Charly Boy explained that after he cut ties with his parents because they did not support his music dreams, he met Iwuanyanwu in his village, Oguta. To his surprise, Iwuanyanwu gave him $8,000. This generous gift allowed him to set up a music studio in his village, helping him to begin his music journey.
He showed his deep gratitude, saying that Iwuanyanwu was the first Nigerian to believe in and support his dreams.
He emphasized how important it is to leave a legacy by touching people’s lives and inspiring them. He thanked Iwuanyanwu for his kindness and called him “Biggest bros/father.”
Charly Boy recalled, “When I came back from the USA in 1981, I only had a dream but no money. I was a broke Charly Boy wanting to make music.”
“Then I met Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu by chance in my village Oguta. I had cut ties with my parents because they didn’t support my dreams, and it was then that Iwuanyanwu gave me $8,000. I almost fainted from the surprise. This money helped me start Jankara studio in my village. He was the first Nigerian to support and believe in my dream.”
Charly Boy added, “Legacy is about the lives we touch, how we inspire others, and making a difference even if it’s just for a moment. We remember people for their smiles, whether they shared them with their loved ones or total strangers who needed them. God places us in these moments to make a difference.”
