The Zamfara Medical Women's Association has ensured to offer free screening and treatment to 200 women with cervical cancer in the state.
This was revealed on Thursday by the President of the Zamfara Medical Women Association, Dr Khadiza Mohammed Kanoma, to mark the Cervical Cancer Awareness Day in the state.
Dr. Khadiza Kanoma revealed that every year, January 1 to 30, was set as a month for cervical cancer awareness campaign.
While highlighting the level of cervical cancer, Dr. Khadiza Kanoma explained that cervical cancer affects 14,000 women in the country annually.
“It would only appear after a few years; “I advised the women to come for an examination,” she urged.
“Cervical cancer is 100% preventable; If we find any woman positive in the test, it can be treated,” he said.
It revealed that cervical cancer mainly affects rural women and women from inaccessible areas.
According to her, Zamfara doctors plan to offer free cervical cancer testing and treatment to more than 200 women across the state from now until the end of January 2025.
“The free examination and treatment would be carried out at the Family Planning unit of the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Gusau, the state capital, with the support of the state government,” he revealed.
Therefore, Dr. Khadiza Kanoma called on the chairpersons of local government councils to praise the efforts of female doctors and support women to attend cervical cancer screening even beyond the scheduled day. for the awareness campaign.
