Canadian Woman Arrested at Lagos Airport for Smuggling 35kg of Synthetic Cannabis

A Canadian woman named Adrienne Munju, who is 41 years old, was caught by the drug authorities in Nigeria. This happened at the big airport in Lagos. She was trying to bring in 35.20 kilograms of a fake cannabis drug, which is a kind of illegal drug.

On October 3, 2024, Adrienne was on a flight from Canada and the officers caught her. They found the drugs hidden in two out of her three bags. There were 74 packets of it inside.

The officers told everyone about the arrest. Femi Babafemi, who is a spokesperson, shared the information on the agency’s website.

“We have arrested a lady from Canada named Adrienne Munju at the Lagos airport,” the report said. She was carrying a big amount of a strong drug called ‘Canadian Loud’, which is fake cannabis.” 

They also added, “When we checked her bags, we found 74 packages of the illegal drug that weighed 35.20 kilograms hidden in two bags. She was visiting Nigeria for the first time.” 

Adrienne admitted that she was hired through the internet and was promised 10,000 Canadian Dollars if she could deliver the drugs to Lagos. She wanted to use the money to pay for her school fees for a master’s degree.

Also, the drug agency caught people at the Port Harcourt port in River State with a lot of dangerous pills like Tramadol and others, totaling over 13 million pills and cough syrups with drugs. These were worth more than 9 billion Nigerian Naira.

The illegal pills came from three big containers that arrived from India. The officials and customs workers worked together to find them on October 2nd and 3rd, 2024.

On the same day, at the Tincan seaport in Lagos, they found 100 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 50 kg, hidden with cars brought from Canada. They tracked these drugs to a storage place in Ikorodu.

In Taraba, drug officers stopped a bus coming from Onitsha to Jalingo on October 3rd. They found opioids like tramadol and other syrups hidden inside the bus.

Two men, Pako Thomas and Emmanuel Anyigor, were arrested. Another man, Chibuzor Okafor, was caught on October 2nd in Wukari with 38 kilograms of weed hidden in bags filled with garri, a type of food.

In Lagos, Bolanle Ajenifuja was caught on October 4th with a lot of illegal drink called skuchies, which is a mix of drugs. Three men, Ezekiel Akpele, Elijah Michael, and Goddard John, were also caught for growing cannabis plants in an area between two states called Edo and Ondo. They destroyed around 9,966 kilograms of cannabis over an area as big as three football fields.
