A 45-year-old businessman named Dada Alaba was taken to court on Monday. The court is called Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court and it is in Lagos. Dada Alaba was accused of taking a big amount of money, N11 million, by tricking someone.
The police officer, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, explained what happened. He said that in November 2023, at a place called Unity Estate in Egbeda, Lagos, Dada told a man named Mr. Oyedepo Olamilekan that he would use the N11 million to start a business. But Dada did not use the money for the business. Instead, he kept the money for himself.
The officer said this action was wrong according to the laws in Lagos. The specific laws are Sections 287, 314, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015. These sections talk about stealing and tricking people.
In court, Dada said he did not do anything wrong. The judge, Magistrate K. A. Ariyo, decided that Dada could go home if he pays N1 million as bail. This means he has to pay money to stay out of jail until the next time the court meets. Also, two people have to promise to pay if Dada does not come back to court. These two people need to have jobs and show they pay taxes to the Lagos State Government.
The judge said the court will meet again on August 30 for more discussions on the case.
