In the city of Awka, which is the capital of Anambra State, there was a scary event on Thursday morning. Many people lost their lives because of a shooting. This news was told to the DAILY POST by some people who saw it.
One person who shared this was a student. He said the shooting took place at a place called Ifite Awka around 9:15 in the morning, and sadly, many people died.
Ifite Awka is mostly known to have many students from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. The student thinks this shooting might be related to groups called cults that cause trouble.
Just a few days before, on Sunday, there was another scary event nearby in a place called Nibo. About 12 people were hurt because of a similar shooting that was also related to these troublesome groups.
Another person said the shooting on Thursday happened near the back gate of Unizik University, close to a road named Amansea.
Someone who saw the event said, “Some men with guns just shot someone at Ifite, Awka. I saw him lying on the ground, not moving.”
A teacher also saw what happened. She said she saw seven people not moving and couldn’t go on to teach her class because she was too scared.
We don’t know for sure how many people were hurt yet. Tochukwu Ikenga, who speaks for the police, said that they are taking care of the scene but didn’t say how many people were affected. He said they’ll share more information later.
In another message, Ikenga mentioned that the police found some videos and voice messages from people planning to cause more problems in Awka.
He said the police in Anambra State are looking into these videos and messages. They’re making sure to stop any violence from happening because they want to keep people safe and make sure everyone can enjoy their rights without being scared.
To do this, police and security teams have started to watch the streets closely and are working hard to keep everything calm and safe for everyone in the state.
