BREAKING: Edo 2024 Election Results Announced Early by PDP Governors, Ahead of INEC

Must Read

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has surprised many by announcing the results of the recent governorship election in Edo State.

The DAILY POST reminds us that only the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can officially announce election results. This is stated in both the Constitution and the 2022 Electoral Act.

Despite this, on Sunday, before INEC shared the results at their central Collation Centre in Benin City, PDP governors held a meeting with the press and announced the Edo State governorship results.

During the press conference, the Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, was joined by other PDP governors. He said the numbers they shared came from “our own counting process before INEC stopped the count.”

The DAILY POST also reports that the competition between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State governorship election is very close.

On Sunday morning, DAILY POST checked and saw that INEC had uploaded around 97 percent of the 4,519 polling units’ results on their Results Viewing (IReV) portal.

The uploaded results show that Asue Ighodalo of the PDP and Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC are neck and neck in the race.

The IReV portal’s results reveal that the PDP candidate is doing well in the Edo South Senatorial District, while the APC candidate is leading in the Edo North Senatorial District.
