The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the Edo State Governorship Election held on Saturday.
Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, officially declared Okpebholo the winner of the election.
The election results from all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo State showed that Okpebholo emerged victorious, winning in eleven LGAs. He defeated the candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, and the Labour Party (LP), Olumide Akpata.
Okpebholo received a total of 291,667 votes. His main rivals, Ighodalo and Akpata, got 247,274 and 18,737 votes respectively.
Okpebholo will replace the outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and will take office at the Osadebe House in Edo State.
In his speech after winning, Okpebholo promised that he would continue the work started by the former Governor, Adams Oshiomole.
