Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State announced that he will give about N209.8 million to 170 primary healthcare centers in the state. These healthcare centers are located in all twenty-seven local government areas of the state.
He shared this news on his Facebook page on August 19, 2024.
The governor gave out cheques to chosen health centers from different parts of the state. He asked the workers to do their best to give good service.
Helping Healthcare
Borno State has faced many problems because of terrorist attacks. Many people lost their homes and moved to crowded camps. This makes it easy for diseases like cholera to spread. This information was given in a United Nations report on March 25, 2024.
The governor asked the managers of local health centers to be responsible and do their job well.
“Healthcare is for everyone. We are putting money into our healthcare system, but we need health workers and community leaders to work together to use these funds well,” Zulum said.
The governor also said he plans to fix up old healthcare centers to make them better.
“From now on, the leaders of local governments must look after the primary healthcare centers in their areas. If there are any problems, we will work together to solve them and make sure our people get good care,” he added.

Prof. Baba M. Gana, the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, said the money shows that Governor Zulum wants good healthcare for the people.
He said, “This moment is important for making sure everyone in our state can get good healthcare. The governor has kindly given N209,819,306 for the two major health programs.
“This shows we want to improve the healthcare system in Borno State. This money will help our health centers provide important services for our communities,” he added.
The UN report in March said that about 2.4 million people in Borno need humanitarian help. This is more than half of the 4.4 million people needing help in northern Nigeria.
Many of these people are living in camps because they lost their homes, and some have returned to the state recently.
“About $510 million is needed to help people in the state. Most of this money, over 30 percent, is needed for food. Other important needs are clean water and healthcare, which need 11 and 10 percent of the money respectively,” said the UN report.
