The Biu Police area command has arrested two suspects in relation to the murder of a 50 -year -old woman accused of practicing witchcraft in the state of Born.
The State Police Commissioner, Yusuf Lawan, confirmed the incident on Saturday, identifying the victim as Hajara Saleh, who was killed on February 21 in the community of Bantine, the local government area of BiU.
The suspects, Ja'o Muhammad, Idrisa Muhammad and Ya'u Muhammad, found between 20 and 30 years, supposedly conspired to kill Saleh, accusing her of bringing misfortune to the community.
Lawan revealed that the woman suffered fatal injuries on her neck, legs and hands. The crime was reported by Dadinkowa Ward residents around 11:00 am
“Upon arriving at the scene, the officers discovered that the victim had already been buried according to the Islamic rites by her husband, Saleh Bole, and other family members,” Lawan said.
Despite the burial, the researchers documented the remains and gathered crucial evidence. Two suspects were arrested immediately, while one remains in general. Human hunt has been thrown to stop the suspect who flees.
When describing the attack as “barbarian and unjustified”, Lawan warned that witchcraft accusations should not be used to justify violence or extrajudicial murders.
“The police are totally committed to bringing all those responsible for this atrocious crime before justice. The public must understand that the law does not allow people to take the matter in their own hands, ”he said.
The suspects face charges of criminal conspiracy, guilty homicide and related crimes. They will be prosecuted at the end of the investigations.
Lawan urged community members to inform suspicions of witchcraft or other complaints to the police instead of resorting to the justice of the jungle.
