Boat accident in Lagos kills 21, 11 rescued

In a sad event, 21 people lost their lives in a boat accident in Imore town, located in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, spoke to reporters in Lagos about the unfortunate incident. He explained that on Monday, the police got a call for help after two boats, each carrying 16 passengers, crashed into each other in the lagoon at Imore Town. These boats did not have any official registration.

When the boats hit, they flipped over, and many passengers fell into the water with their belongings. Right away, responders rushed to help at the location.

“Groups of regular police, marine police, local swimmers, and other emergency teams hurried to the site. They managed to save 11 people, though they were hurt,” he shared.

The rescued individuals were quickly taken to Navy Hospital in Navy Town, Alakija, to get medical help. Meanwhile, the search continues to find the missing people in the water.

The officer also mentioned that the authorities are looking into how this accident happened.
