Biography and Profile of Temitope Ilori

Temitope Ilori has been appointed by President Tinubu as the new Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).

With her appointment, she becomes the first female to ever be appointed as DG of the establishment.

Dr. Ilori took over from her predecessor, Dr. Gambo Aliyu, who was the DG of the agency from June 2019 until February 2024.

Here are some interesting things to know about her.

1. Temitope Ilori holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) and a Master of Science (MSc.) degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ibadan.

2. She graduated as the best graduating fellow of the Faculty of Family Medicine, West African College of Physicians, in April 2012, winning the A.O. Senbanjo Prize.

3. She is a PhD Fellow at the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, sponsored by the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa.

4. Her areas of research interest include Primary Care, Immunization, Public Health Nutrition, Non-Communicable Diseases, and Women’s and Child’s Health.

5. She is a prolific researcher who has co-authored over 30 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

6. She is also an Associate Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

7. Temitope has attended various training courses, including the Practical Financial Management Certificate Course from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), Liverpool, UK, and Leadership Training for Physicians Executives at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. She similarly attended a Leadership and Management Training in Health course at the University of Washington.

8. Temitope is currently one of the pioneer faculty members of the unit of Family Medicine in the Department of Community Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.

9. She was a Commissioner for Health, in Osun State, Nigeria from 2011 to 2014, Chairperson of the Osun State Agency on Control of HIV/AIDS, and Osun State Technical Working Group on Immunization.

10. Dr. Ilori was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine, University of Ibadan, and a Consultant Family Physician in the Department of Family Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan until her appointment.
