On Thursday, the House of Representatives read a bill for the first time that wants to change the 1999 Constitution.

This bill is called “A Bill for an Act to Change the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).” It wants to allow people who are not supported by political parties to run for President, Governor, National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly, and Local Government Council elections.

Akin Rotimi, who speaks for the House and represents the Ikole-Oye Federal Constituency in Ekiti State, is the one who brought this bill. The bill wants to change sections 7, 65, 106, 131, 177, and 221 of the Constitution.

Earlier, DAILY POST reported that the House of Representatives promised to quickly approve the 2025 Budget Bill.

The House leaders said they will speed up the approval of the Budget Bill and the Whistleblower Protection Bill, and they want to make sure the government works better and makes the country safer.

A statement was made on Monday by the chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi, in Abuja. It explained the important things the House will focus on in the second year of the 10th Assembly.
