On Saturday, upset members halted the Local Government Congresses of the Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The protests were because people believed the list from the last congresses was changed and the necessary materials were taken elsewhere.
The party has been in trouble since the ward congresses in July didn’t end well.
From what DAILY POST found out, the list given to party leaders in Makurdi on Friday didn’t match what was put together at the wards.
The party office was very tense, with many security officers around to make sure there were no problems.
A lot of young people, who were thought to be troublemakers, gathered at the office, singing songs to show their support.
Worried leaders and members of the party stayed at the office all night, waiting for the electoral officials to come from Abuja.
The way the recent ward congresses were held has caused a lot of confusion and arguments, with many people getting suspended for not supporting the party properly.
After waiting a long time at the party office in Makurdi, chaos erupted when the officials finally arrived from Abuja.
A fight started because the officials were stopped from giving out the materials needed for the local government congresses.
Party members demanded the list of candidates and the results from the last ward congresses, but the officials didn’t have them.
The protesting members chased the electoral officers from Abuja out of the party office.
The caretaker chairman, AVM Napoleon Bali, and his committee members left the office in a convoy to an unknown place.
