The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has shared how they will pick candidates for the local government elections.
The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) said the elections will be on October 5, 2024.
On Monday, the Caretaker Committee Publicity Secretary, Hon. Oryina Orvaa, explained the process in some guidelines.
Hon. Orvaa said the screening of people who want to run for positions will happen on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Here’s the schedule:
– For those from Zone A who want to be councilors, the screening will be at London Galaxy Hotel in Adikpo. It will start at 10:00 AM.
– For those from Zone B who want to be councilors, the screening will be at the PDP State Secretariat in Makurdi. It will also start at 10:00 AM.
– For those from Zone C who want to be councilors, the screening will be at Leach Hotel in Otukpo. This screening will start at 10:00 AM too.
Hon. Orvaa added that people who want to be chairpersons and have already filled out their forms must go to the party headquarters in Makurdi on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, for their screening.
He also said the elections for those who want to be councilors will be on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the headquarters of each council ward. The elections for those who want to be chairpersons will be at the local government area headquarters, also on the same day.
Any complaints about the screenings or elections for councilors and chairpersons will be looked into on Thursday, August 28, 2024, at the party headquarters in Makurdi.
Hon. Orvaa reminded everyone who wants to run to make sure they submit all their forms, including tax clearance certificates, party membership cards, voter cards, copies of their nomination and interest forms, proof of payment of handling charges, and their academic qualifications during their screening.
