Raphael Onyedika, a midfielder for the Super Eagles, had a tough start to the new season. His team, Club Brugge, lost 2-1 to Union St. Gilloise in the Belgian Super Cup.
The Super Cup match marks the beginning of the new league season in Belgium, which will officially start next weekend.
Onyedika wasn’t in the starting lineup; he began the game on the bench.
When the game was 56 minutes in, Onyedika replaced Casper Nielsen on the field.
Club Brugge took the lead when Cameron Puertas scored from a penalty five minutes before halftime. But just two minutes into the second half, Fedde Laysen scored for Union St. Gilloise, making it 1-1.
Later in the game, Christos Tzolis scored a goal for Club Brugge, but it wasn’t enough. They lost the match 2-1.
