Belgium: Club Brugge Coach Stands by Onyedika Following Controversial Red Card

Must Read

The head coach of Club Brugge, Nicky Hayen, shared his thoughts on Raphael Onyedika’s red card against Sporting Charleroi, according to the DAILY POST.

During the game, the midfielder was shown a red card in the 55th minute because of a bad tackle.

Coach Hayen believes the referee’s decision was too strict.

“It should never have been a red card. Yes, Onyedika tackled hard, but his studs did not hit the opponent’s ankle. It was not a dangerous play, and he also got the ball,” Hayen explained after the game.

“He did not hit the opponent’s ankle or foot directly. I think a yellow card would have been fair,” the coach added.

Because of this red card, Onyedika will miss Club Brugge’s next three league matches against Union St Gilloise, Westerloo, and Anderlecht.
