The state of Bauchi has reported the detection of 13,908 cases of tuberculosis susceptible to drugs (TB) and the record of 12,092 cases in the treatment, compared to 9,332 in 2023.
The dissemination was made by the State Health Commissioner, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, during the commemoration of World TB Day of 2025 held Monday in Bauchi.
He revealed that with an estimated TB objective of 18,696 in 2024, the State achieved a 65% yield in the notification of TB cases, and of the 9,069 new cases of TB detected and registered for the treatment in 2024, approximately 8,989 were successfully treated, they achieved a treatment rate of 99.1% (TSR) at the end of 2024.
Represented by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Suleiman Auwal Abubakar, the commissioner declared that, “with the current commitment of the state government of Bauchi, this administration under the leadership of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, Bacatma has achieved significant progress in terms of control of TB both at the state level and LGA.”
According to him, “in the state of Bauchi, there are currently 800 free TB treatment centers, 131 AFB centers and 18 general, 12 Truenat and 9 TB lamp machines that are the latest machines that are used in the diagnosis of the drug bacteria of the drug and the medication resistant voltage TB).
“It is interesting to observe that the 20 LGA in the state of Bauchi have at least one of the latest machines for the molecular diagnosis of TB.”

In the area of interventions and success registered, the commissioner declared that 40 new motorcycles were acquired and distributed to 20 LGA of the State to allow TBL supervisors and their assistants to monitor the implementation of TB activities in their LGA.
In addition, 5 portable digital X -ray machines were assigned to the state, while another lot will soon arrive. Nine Truenat molecular machines were also assigned to the State.
“Our united effort is necessary to achieve those with the greatest risk of TB and identify and implement innovative strategies to improve tests and treatment between high -risk populations.”
“In this situation, I would like to resort to all interested parties; international organizations, civil society organizations, religious and traditional/community leaders, private sectors to join the impulse to implement this strategy and achieve, treat and cure all patients with TB today,” he emphasized.
The commissioner emphasized that TB is an infectious bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which most commonly affects the lungs that explain that it is transmitted from person to person through throat drops and the lungs of people with the disease.
He warned that “if not, a person with active pulmonary TB disease will infect, on average, between 10 and 15 people each year. Tuberculosis is one of the eight (8) global health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization.”
He added that the World Health Organization (WHO) has set aside on March 24 of each year, since World TB Day states that “this is designed to build a public awareness that tuberculosis is still an epidemic in much of the world, causing the death of almost 1.5 million people every year, mainly in developing countries.
According to him, “after the UN high level meeting in TB in September 2023, the world has witnessed unprecedented progress: a 7.5 million record diagnosed with approximately 10.3 million cases in 2022, the largest number of people with TB never diagnosed and treated in a year.
This caused the Member States unanimously to maintain last year's issue of “Yes! We can end TB” to keep the focus on the incredible work done in 2022.
The global approach to TB is clear: to increase funds for implementation, accelerate research and development for new tools, including vaccines, improve access to rapid molecular diagnosis and efficient treatments, prioritize tuberculosis prevention, address TB in children and support vital work in communities, rights and gender (CRG).
He stressed that “it is my great privilege and pleasure that represents all the people of the state of Bauchi to join the world to celebrate the” World TB Day “this year with a theme” Yes! And a slogan “We can put an end to TB” commit, invest and deliver.
This gives us the opportunity to evaluate the progress made to achieve the final TB strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “
