The Project Management Unit of the State of Bauchi has not planted less than 400 seedlings of economic trees of agricultural resilience in the semi -arid (acresal) landscape in collaboration with its NGO Focal, the Savannah Institute for sustainable development (SISDEV) .
The 400 economic trees were planted in eight communities in the state of Bauchi to boost income generation and open doors to self -employment.
This initiative is part of the 'One Person, One Tree' campaign introduced by the SPMU, aimed at promoting afforestation and encouraging the local property of trees through organizations led by the community.
Speaking on behalf of the state project coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, the project communication officer, Jennifer Mark Yerima, emphasized the importance of the initiative to address environmental challenges.
He urged community members to actively participate in tree planting efforts to address issues such as deforestation, soil erosion, floods and climate change.
Jennifer Yerima also highlighted the commitment of the administration of the governor Balaba Abdulqadir Mohammed to address environmental challenges and continuous promised collaboration with organizations and individuals to guarantee the sustainability of planted trees.
On the importance of trees in the environment, the Communications officer informs the members of the beneficial communities that most of the environmental problems of soil erosion, water floods, desertification, drought and climate change They will be resolved through afforestation activities.
He added that the exercise was also encouraged by the religious writings that attract rewards, urging community members to take possession of trees and guarantee their survival.
In her comments, the executive director of SISDEV, Mrs. Titi Yakubu, described the exercise as a monitoring of the recent tree planting project on the road along Atiku Abubakar Road.
He pointed out that his organization was aimed at providing 400 fruit trees to be planted inside and around households in the communities that benefit.
Yakubu reaffirmed SISDEV's commitment to support afforestation efforts, emphasizing the crucial role of trees in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi, Sarkin Ibrahim Bako and the Commissioner for the Development of Livestock, the state of Bauchi, who expressed his appreciation for the selection of his community in the project, highlighted the numerous benefits of the trees, including the embellished , improved air quality and environmental protection.
He also requested a change in attitude and greater patriotism towards national development, ensuring that his community properly care for seedlings.
The commissioner also urged the SPMU to provide additional trees to ensure long -term environmental benefits.
He praised Acresal's collaboration with the communities and emphasized the importance of community leaders to guarantee the success of the initiative.
In addition, the project gender officer, Maimuna G. Aliyu, and the social media officer, Khadija Abdulwahab Katagum, encouraged community leaders to involve women not only in planting trees but also in all aspects of the Community development, recognizing their important roles as caregivers and household administrators.
