One day, 13 Bishops from a group called Brotherhood of the Cross and Star were traveling to different places in Nigeria to talk to people about their faith. On their trip, something unexpected happened. They were stopped by some robbers who were hiding on the road, hoping to take things from travelers.
This happened in the evening, while they were driving on a big road in a place called Benue State, heading towards a city called Abuja. Archbishop Benjamin Ogwutum, who led the group, shared their story with reporters. He said that they needed to get to Abuja by night, so they chose to drive during the evening time.
As they passed through an area known as North Bank in Benue State, they saw some men on the road. At first glance, the bishops thought these men might be Fulani Herdsmen, who are people often seen in that area. However, these men were doing something different—they were stopping cars on the road.
The robbers stopped the bishops’ vehicle, and everyone inside got very scared. In their fear, the bishops began to call out to God for help. Suddenly, one of the robbers, who seemed to be their leader, approached them. He said, “Let them go; they are people of God. We have no business with them.”
Afterwards, this same leader of the robbers confessed something surprising. He told the bishops that they were indeed robbers, but they wanted the bishops to pray for them so that they wouldn’t get caught in the future.
