Anambra: LP Challenges Soludo’s Proposed Local Government Elections in Court

Must Read

The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State does not like the planned local government election set for September 28.

During a weekend press conference, the party’s leaders told reporters they would go to court. They argue that Governor Chukwuma Soludo pushed the Assembly to quickly change the election laws.

The party said, “The big news right now is the upcoming Anambra State Local Government elections.

“We were surprised at how fast the Assembly changed the election laws. They didn’t even set aside money for the elections in their budget, and they made changes late at night.

“The governor is under a lot of pressure to hold the election before October 2024. If he doesn’t, he will lose control of the monthly Local Government Fund Allocations, according to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.”

After looking closely at the new law, the party decided to go to court.

“We plan to challenge the bad parts of the quickly changed laws. Our party is getting ready to join the election, but only if everything is done fairly and the court proceedings are concluded.”
