After two years as Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has finally decided to have local government elections in Anambra State.
The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) shared this announcement in a press statement on Monday.
Last week, Soludo swore in the new members of ANSIEC, asking them to ensure the elections are fair and transparent.
On Monday, ANSIEC’s Chairman, Genevieve C. Osakwe, signed a statement saying the election will take place on September 28, 2024.
“The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission wants to let all registered Political Parties and the general public know that Local Government Elections in the State will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
“You can get the Election Timetable, Schedule of Activities, and other details at the headquarters of ANSIEC in Awka, starting Wednesday, August 14, 2024.”
This news comes after many groups and people in Anambra, like civil society groups, politicians, and journalists, asked Soludo to keep his promise to hold local government elections.
