The captain of the Nigerian Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa, has cleared up some confusion. Some people thought he stopped playing for the national team.
Musa did not play in any of Nigeria’s seven games at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The team finished in second place.
Ahmed Musa, who used to play for CSKA Moscow, last started a game for Nigeria in 2021. This was during a World Cup qualifying match against Cape Verde. In that match, he played for 67 minutes and Nigeria won 2-0.
His latest game for Nigeria was in January, where he played for only seven minutes in a friendly match against Guinea.
Ahmed has not been with any club since February. This was because his contract with a Turkish team, Sivasspor, ended.
But, while talking to reporters after a friendly game he organized, Musa said, “I only took a little break from the national team. But I didn’t leave the team.”
