The Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, in his continued effort to promote the concept of professional accounting with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), has pledged to support the Institute with integrity, transparency and zero level of tolerance to corruption in both the private and public sectors.
Madein revealed this while hosting the 60th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Davidson CS Alaribe and his team at his office in Abuja.
She revealed that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation plays a leading role in upholding the integrity of the accounting profession, stating that around 70 per cent of its workers are accountants.
In a statement, Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, said Dr. Oluwatoyin reiterated that his office will continue to partner with ICAN in order to showcase robust and transparent accounting concepts, as ICAN's mandates and OAGF are common in state.
“I will uphold the integrity, ethics and core values of the accounting profession, as well as welcome all criticism and recognition in accounting practices,” Madein revealed.
The 60th President of ICAN and the current President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Dr. Davidson CS Alaribe, earlier in his speech stated that the mission for the courtesy call is to appreciate the AGF of her maternal role and the support she extended to which he extended. He acknowledged the pivotal role the Accountant General of the Federation is playing in shaping the accounting profession, particularly the revival of the Federal Treasury Academy in Orozo, Abuja, which he said is worth commending.
Davidson stated that ICAN has been providing assistance to accountants, offering scholarships in the sum of N500,000.00 to those who are ready to pursue further studies in the accounting profession up to the doctoral level.
