The Oyo State Government has announced plans to recruit 3,000 health workers for the 464 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in the state.
He revealed that he had completed 200 facilities and upgraded 264 more with equipment, across 33 local government areas.
He said his policy is to have at least one functional primary health care centre in each of the political districts in all zones.
The Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board, Muideen Olatunji, made the announcement while addressing journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Mr. Olatunji disclosed that the state government has commenced recruitment for primary healthcare facilities in all 33 local government areas.
He said the state governor, Seyi Makinde, had ordered the completion of the recruitment process, which began in 2021.
“We are going to hire around 3,000 of the 16,035 candidates who have applied through our employment portal. We hope that all the exams will be completed in less than two months,” said Olátúnjí.

He urged all applicants to return to the job application portal and stay tuned for their CBT exam invitations.
He explained that recruitment to the APS system is a way to strengthen and regulate the primary health care system and to restructure the provision of health services in the state.
He further stated that there has been no significant recruitment in the primary care sector in over 20 years, and that this is the first time in almost two decades that the state government is recruiting in the primary care system to fill the workforce gap.
According to him, “You will recall that we started with the renovation and modernization of primary health care facilities in all the 36 political districts; the state government wanted to have at least one functional primary health care facility in each of the political districts.
“To date, we have completed more than 200 installations and the remaining ones will be completed in the coming months. Recently, a further 264 installations have been equipped with additional equipment for further improvement.”
Mr Olatunji was joined by five other members of the board management team including Olayemi Osoko, Sunday Adewole, Kehinde Olabode, Segun Dauda and Olasumbo Azeez at the briefing.
