The Confederation of African Football, known as CAF, might give Libya three points and three goals. This could happen if the Nigerian team, called the Super Eagles, decides not to play the next match on Tuesday. This match is part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
The upcoming game is like a second half of a previous game. In that earlier match, Nigeria won 1-0. It was played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, which is the capital city of Akwa Ibom state.
In that game, a player named Fisayo Dele-Bashiru made the only goal. Even though the other team, named the Mediterranean Knights, tried to waste time, Dele-Bashiru scored.
But before this next game that is supposed to happen in Benina, there was a problem. The Nigerian team got stuck at the Al Abraq Airport in Libya for more than 15 hours. They couldn’t leave and go to their hotel or rest properly.
William Troost-Ekong, who is the team captain, wrote a long message online. He was very upset. He said, “As the leader of the team, we all have decided not to play this match.”
He also said, “CAF needs to see what’s happening here. If they let this bad behavior go on, Libya can have the points.”
The Nigeria Football Federation, or NFF, is also thinking about bringing their team home instead of them staying to play the match.
If the Super Eagles do end up leaving without playing, CAF might punish them because they didn’t join the game.
But, if CAF finds out that the Libyan team did something wrong to the Nigerian team, the Libyan side could face penalties or fines for their actions.
