Adamawa: Three Youths Apprehended After Botched Phone Snatching Attempt

Must Read

Three young boys were caught and taken by the police in Yola, Adamawa State, after fighting a man for his phone.

These boys, known as Shila Boys, are known for causing trouble. They pretended their Keke NAPEP (a small motor vehicle) was a regular taxi.

They picked up a man, acting like they would take him where he wanted to go. But then, they tried to steal his phone from his pocket.

The man, who happened to be a police officer, did not let them take his phone easily. A fight started between them.

The boys—Hamza Ibrahim, 19 years old; Auwal Kolo, 19 years old; and Mubarak Sadiq, who owned the Keke NAPEP—admitted they planned to steal the man’s phone.

The boys told the police they picked up the man and drove away from where he wanted to go. They headed to Mahmud Ribadu Square, a place where bad activities happen because it is quiet and lonely.

As they were going, Kolo tried to take the phone from the police officer’s pocket and even threatened to hurt him if he did not give it up.

During the fight, the police officer hit Hamza, who was driving, making the Keke NAPEP shake and fall over, throwing everyone onto the street.

The police quickly caught the boys after this.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, a police spokesperson, confirmed what happened and said the boys admitted to what they did. They will be taken to court for their crime.
