Officers of the Adamawa State Police Command arrested three youths believed to be some of the youths in the state known as Shila Boys, known for their armed robberies.

The command said Sunday morning that the boys were detained while attacking and robbing people who were going to church to pray.

A statement signed by the police image maker, SP Suleiman Nguroje, mentioned Bishop Street Jimeta as the scene of the incident.

The street seen leads to several large churches, including the Cathedral of St. Teresa, headquarters of the Catholic Archdiocese of Yola, as well as the state headquarters of the Living Faith Church.

According to the statement, the arrest was made in the early hours of Sunday, December 29, based on credible information.

Nguroje mentioned items recovered from the suspects such as machetes, knives, ATM cards, phones and a tricycle.

He said the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of the items was not easy as the suspects struggled in an effort to escape.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the suspects aggressively attacked the police officers with machetes and knives in an attempt to resist arrest,” Nguroje said.

According to him, “minimal force was used to neutralize the attack.”

He added that three of the suspects were arrested, while two others escaped.

“The injured suspects are now receiving treatment and assisting in the investigation,” he explained.
