Actress Jumoke George Reveals How Demands for Impropriety Caused Her 14-Year Hiatus from Nollywood

Must Read

Jumoke George, a well-known Nollywood actress, shared why she didn’t appear in movies for 14 years.

Jumoke talked about this on a show called Oyinmomo TV.

She explained that there were challenges in her career. People didn’t give her roles because of her dark skin color, and because she wouldn’t do certain things to get those roles.

“My dark skin wasn’t the only problem,” said Jumoke. “I also didn’t accept when people wanted me to do bad things to get a role. Directors would say I was too dark, and I’d tell them they could use lights to make me look brighter.”

Jumoke continued, “I didn’t want to do what I felt was wrong. I am proud of my dark skin. Remember, black skin is beautiful and stays young-looking. Many important people wanted me to exchange favors for roles.”

She added, “I promised that I wouldn’t be in that situation. For three years, I didn’t get any roles, and I was confused until I met a director at a café. I asked him why they didn’t call me anymore.”

He replied that directors agreed not to give her roles because she refused to do bad activities. This made her very sad, and she cried. When she got home, she prayed for help and strength.
