Actor Yomi Fabiyi to lead protest at Lagos House of Assembly

Must Read

It has been over a year since Mohbad's tragic death, and human rights activist and actor Yomi Fabiyi is continuing his efforts to seek justice for the late singer.

The news of Mohbad's passing came as a profound shock, but what was even more alarming was the speed with which he was buried.

This pattern was abnormal, triggering concern among the Lagos government and the Nigerian police, who investigated the cause of death, leading to the exhumation of the body for an autopsy.

From September 12, 2023 to date, numerous accusations have followed his former management, his family, and even his wife, who has been accused of paternity fraud, but there is no concrete evidence to prove anyone is guilty.

It has been a year and the situation remains the same. Mr Fabiyi on Monday revealed plans to stage a “peaceful protest” outside the National Assembly in Ikeja, Lagos, using the hashtag “Justice for Mohbad”.

He stressed the importance of public participation, saying: “It is crucial that we exert legitimate pressure and peacefully protest at the gate of the Lagos State House of Assembly on September 30, 2024.

“Those behind this heinous crime, those who took Mohbad’s life, are spending millions and millions of naira to cover up the case, create distractions and bury the many glaring pieces of evidence.”

He also highlighted an important detail that could have helped facilitate the Nigerian police investigation: the installation of security cameras at the deceased's residence, a pattern that Fabiyi said was synonymous with the layout of the apartments in the development where Mohbad resided.

“We are certain that the security cameras inside and outside Mohbad’s house were operated and stored by someone remotely and not through DVR. Builders of similar pattern houses such as Royal Pine Estate, Off Orchid Road, Lekki Security and CDA have answers as to where this data is stored,” he wrote.

He also addressed the Nigerian police's lack of due diligence in weighing their options comprehensively.

Mr. Fabiyi went on to explain the concept of the planned protest as one in which protesters will participate and act in a civilized manner.

He said: “We the masses do not want laws imposed on us by going and asking for them. Therefore, we need the true representative of the people of Lagos State to intervene and set up a committee to convene, visit and bring out the truth.”

Finally, he implored concerned Nigerians and supporters of the deceased to join the protest: “Come together and let us speak with one voice. This struggle needs you. Be orderly and civil when you attend.”
