The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emereuwa, has officially welcomed Aaron Uzodike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to represent the Aba North area in the Abia State House of Assembly.
In 2023, Uzodike ran for a seat in the House of Assembly with the PDP and was announced as the winner by the Court of Appeal in Lagos. This decision came after the court removed the previous member, Destiny Akara Nwagwu from the Labour Party.
Despite Uzodike having the court’s decision paper and an official certificate of election from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Assembly delayed his swearing-in.
This hold-up was because of a supposed court order, making Uzodike wait for nine months before taking his position.
The decision by the Appeal Court to remove Destiny Nwagwu upset many Labour Party supporters in Abia, leading them to protest in the streets of Umuahia.
However, on Tuesday, the Speaker finally swore in Aaron Uzodike, causing joy among PDP supporters in Aba North and beyond.
Back in April, Uzodike told journalists in Umuahia that there were false stories about him being forced to join the Labour Party in exchange for being allowed to take his seat as a legislator.
