The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Adamawa State has caught a man. He’s accused of cheating traders and POS operators with fake bank transfers.
The man, named Jeremiah Stephen, does this mainly in Michika, a big town in northern Adamawa, and in Yola, the state capital. The Michika Division of NSCDC caught him.
The spokesperson for Adamawa State NSCDC, DSC Amidu Nyako, said on Sunday that Stephen, who is 24 years old, admitted to cheating people of up to half a million naira in Michika and Yola.
Nyako mentioned that the suspect said he started doing this because he was sick and needed money.
The NSCDC spokesperson advised shop owners and POS operators to always check their bank accounts to make sure they received the money before handing over goods or giving cash to anyone.
He also shared that the NSCDC head in Adamawa State, Ibrahim Mainasara, has ordered a detailed investigation. The suspect will be taken to court soon.
