BBNaija: Why our strategy failed

Must Read

Damilola and Toyosi, the first housemates to be evicted from BBNaija Season 9, known as Tami, have reacted to their untimely eviction.

The duo were evicted from the BBNaija No Loose Guard show on Sunday after the housemates kicked them out.

During an interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday, the couple spoke about their failed strategies to win and their plans.

The eviction

After the eviction, Dami, one half of the couple, admitted that her character was the main reason for her leaving. She believed that they could still be there if she had performed better in the Big Brother house.

Dami said, “I mean, I wanted to believe that if she had acted better, if the whole cooking thing hadn’t happened, if people hadn’t taken it as something offensive, we wouldn’t be out now because she (Toyosi) was already starting to form an alliance with the girls and, you know, a connection and all that. So yeah, that’s the main reason.”

Polytechnic graduate Moshood Abiola claimed that the housemates started treating her differently after Dami's disputes, becoming more distant and cautious in her presence.

“After Dami’s altercation with some people, when they saw me, they started to keep quiet; they didn’t want to talk to me; they were just very, very careful with me and cautious with what they said. Or when I came, they would make excuses.

“So it was like a transfer of aggression from their side to mine, and I understand that because we’re a couple; they just took it out on me,” Toyosi revealed.

Tami mentioned in the interview that she didn't hold any resentment towards those who voted for them and acknowledged that they would have done the same.

The 28-year-old said: “There is no bad blood. There is no bad blood. If they don’t have a problem with us, we don’t have a problem with anyone. Still, we would have kicked someone out if we were in their shoes. Someone has to go.”

One of the many reasons people go on BBNaija is to become famous and get opportunities.

However, leaving the program in just one week can be mentally and emotionally challenging.

In an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Monday, Toyosi revealed her decision to temporarily separate from her roommate and friend of seven years to process her thoughts as she believes it is healthier to do so separately.

When asked about Dami's reaction to the 26-year-old's decision, he mentioned that space is necessary.

The Lagos State Polytechnic graduate said: “I think it is fair to give space when needed, so I wouldn’t say in a low-key tone that I blame myself for it.”

Despite the tension, both have plans regarding their careers and future. Dami, a nightlife promoter, plans to expand and partner with brands, while Toyosi intends to return to her beauty business and venture into something new.

They said: “As you all know, I’m in the nightlife space; I’m a nightlife promoter, meaning club promotion and all that, so I’m hoping to grow it, to be in a bigger space and, you know, collaborate and partner with a lot of clubs, a lot of nightlife teams and hospitality and entertainment in general, to go deeper.

“I am also a professional chef and I want to go back to school to improve my culinary skills. Then, in the future, I will be a restaurateur and right now I am thinking of making a presentation. So yes, we can use this platform and this opportunity to bring them to life.

“In my case (Toyosi), I will return to my beauty business, I will have my beauty product line and my beauty salon, and then I will return to the beauty industry. I will also go into film production and making movies,” she added.

Damilola and Toyosi, the first housemates to be evicted from BBNaija Season 9, known as Tami, failed in the strategy

Like most housemates on the show, Team Tami entered the house with a planned strategy to help them win, but it didn't work.

The team revealed their intention to show authentic friendships and devised a plan to alternate between playing the most challenging and enjoyable roles.

They said, “So going into the house, we wanted to show our genuine friendship and bond. We wanted to show that, and there’s this thing that, you know, people tend to think that female friendship has no authenticity. So the plan was to go in there and show the world that we have a genuine friendship and we communicate well.

“Also, we came up with this idea: bad cop, good cop. You know, I could be the bad cop today, she could be the great cop today, and tomorrow, she could be the bad cop and I could be the good cop. That was what we wanted to do initially. We didn’t have time to do it, and here we are,” they added.

The team further acknowledged that their strategy failed due to the delay in participation in the BBNaija house.

They said, “We should come out quicker. I think that’s what we would have done differently: come out quicker. Be more active because we were relaxed the last few days. If we were given another chance, we would get down to business. That’s just being active.”
