Cholera Outbreak Claims Lives of Seven Children in Delta State

Seven children have sadly died from a cholera outbreak affecting eight local areas in Delta State.

Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, talked about this on Tuesday in Asaba. He said the outbreak happened because the places were not clean.

He said cholera is a problem across the country and stressed how important it is to always wash hands, drink clean water, and keep our surroundings tidy.

Cholera is a sickness caused by bacteria found in dirty water and food. It makes people have runny poop, feel very thirsty, and lose important body minerals.

Dr. Onojaeme assured that the state government is doing enough to help. He said that we do not need to keep patients in isolation since cholera does not spread through the air.

“Cholera can take up to 12 days before a person shows signs of being sick, but they can still spread it to others during this time. Simple hygiene habits can help stop this,” he said.

He added, “We are working hard to control this outbreak through our Health Ministry’s special team. We will keep spreading the word about how to stay clean and safe. Since cholera is a nationwide problem, our actions are very important for every part of the country.”

Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, the Information Commissioner, said the press meeting was held so Dr. Onojaeme could update everyone about the cholera outbreak.

Dr. Osuoza also asked people living in the area to help the government fight against the disease and achieve good results.
