Cult-Related Shootings: Three More Killed in Awka, Police Remain Silent

Must Read

On Monday, three people were shot and killed in different parts of Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

Before this, there was a shooting in Ifite. A man from Kogi State who drove a tricycle was killed there.

Monday’s shootings happened in different places in Awka. Sources said three people died from these incidents.

A journalist, who didn’t want to be named, told DAILY POST about a shooting in her area, Ukwuorji. It happened around 5pm.

She said, “The victim worked as a private security guard. He was from Abagana and lived with his older sister until he was killed.”

Another source said more shootings happened near St. Faith Cathedral, close to the popular Eke Awka Market, and in Amawbia.

The source said, “In Amawbia, a young boy who made and sold shawarma near Eke Amawbia market was killed. Bullets hit his head four times while everyone ran for safety.”

“The incident happened very close to the State CID and the Police Command Headquarters in Anambra State. But the gunmen drove away without anyone stopping them.”

People are asking what kind of police protection we have in Anambra State. Some say the police stay silent unless the trouble reaches their own area.

When DAILY POST tried to get a response from the state police on WhatsApp, their spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, did not reply.

There have been many killings in Awka, often linked to cult groups.

Hon. Nigeria Henry Mbachu, a member representing Awka 1 state constituency, organized a security meeting in June. He gathered different groups to find a solution to the killings, but it continues.

Experts say there’s hardly a week without cult clashes and killings in Awka.
