Celine Dion, the famous Canadian singer who has won Grammy awards, sang for the first time in four years at the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony in Paris, France, on Friday.
The 56-year-old singer, who has been sick with something called stiff-person syndrome, sang a song called ‘Hymne à l’amour’ by a French singer named Édith Piaf. She sang this song at the base of the Eiffel Tower, which made it a special moment.
Celine Dion has not sung in front of people since 2020 because of her illness. She shared her feelings about this special performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics in a statement.
“I’m so happy to sing tonight for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and I love being back in one of my favorite cities!,” she said.
“Most of all, I’m thrilled to celebrate these amazing athletes. They have worked so hard, faced challenges, and never gave up.
“No matter if you win a medal or not, just being here means you have achieved something great! You should all feel very proud. You have trained so hard to be the best. Keep going, stay focused, I am cheering for you!” She wrote.
This is the second time Celine has sung at the Olympics. She also sang at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
According to TMZ, Celine Dion was paid for her performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show, she promised that she would go back to performing live, even if she had to crawl to the stage and use hand gestures to communicate.
