The big boss of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Chekwas Okorie, is very happy with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Why? Because President Tinubu made a new law called the South East Development Commission Act.
A little history lesson: In 2017, a smart man named Hon Chukwuka Onyema from Anambra State wanted to get this law started. But it didn’t go very far. Then, in 2024, another clever guy, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu, made the idea even better and tried again. This time, everything moved quickly. It passed through the House of Representatives and the Senate with flying colors.
President Tinubu agreed to make it a real law very fast. This new law is to help fix the roads, schools, and other important things in the South East of Nigeria, especially after a big war called the Nigeria-Biafra war, which ended in 1970.
Chief Chekwas Okorie remembers when, after the war, the government said, “No winners, no losers.” They promised to help fix everything up with a plan called Reconciliation, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction, or “3R” for short.
But guess what? For about 50 years, not much happened. The repairs and building didn’t really get done. That’s why Chief Chekwas is very happy with President Tinubu. He believes this new law is a big step to make things right and help the people in the South East feel like they belong.
In his speech, Chief Chekwas said he hopes the government gives the new commission enough money to do a good job. He also asked everybody, whether they live in Nigeria or abroad, to help out and work together to make this plan work. He believes it’s better to start late than never. After waiting for more than 50 years, it looks like the promise to fix things is finally happening under President Tinubu’s leadership.
