Yul Edochie: “I regret sponsoring Judy Austin’s college education”

Must Read

Emmanuel Obasi, the ex-husband of Yul Edochie's second wife Judy Austin, said he regrets funding his university education.

Mr Obasi married Ms Austin when she was 19. They have two children and divorced in 2013.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that Mr Edochie introduced Ms Austin as his second wife on April 21, 2022 amid a marital crisis with his first wife, May, whom he married 18 years ago.

Mr Obasi, who lamented his plight during a Facebook Live on the Ujuofficial page on Sunday, said he regretted investing in his ex-wife's education.

Ms. Austin's ex-husband, who did not disclose which college she attended, said things changed in their marriage after she arrived on campus.

He said: “I don’t have enough education and I put her in school (university) so that she could study and pursue my line of business, but everything changed. We didn’t fight. My biggest offense or problem was why I put her in school, and everything changed. She packed everything that belonged to me in 2012.

“She got her way and I thought it was child’s play, so we decided to negotiate to find out how to work things out and she started saying that I should go and collect my dowry, that she was no longer interested in marriage. I decided to move on with my life and leave everything for her.”

Furthermore, Mr. Obasi alleged that Mr. Edochie dated Ms. Austin while they were married.

The allegations came just over a month after the actor-turned-pastor preached against adultery.

Mr Edochie, during a sermon in June, warned men against adultery, noting that sleeping with married women could leave them vulnerable to spiritual attacks.

“She (Judy) was living under my roof, but she was going to move in with Yul at her family home, and they accepted them. The family accepted her and Yul, a married woman. She had caused difficulties in my life, so she insisted that if I wanted the marriage to continue, I should rent her an apartment in Enugu.

“I should have known before anyone else, but because of the kind of love we shared with the tenants, everyone was afraid to tell me. Because of that, no one knew that our marriage would fall apart. They didn’t want to tell me the truth because they weren’t sure of my reaction. After they confirmed that the marriage was over, the whole truth started coming out,” Obasi added.

Judy Austin and Yul Edochie Child Custody

Austin's ex-husband further claimed that she denied him access to their two children for more than a decade since their divorce.

She claimed she had not seen her children on social media or anywhere else since the divorce.

Mr. Obasi insisted that all he wanted was access to his children.

“I don’t want my children to be educated for me; ten years is very important. My children’s education affects me dramatically and I need to see them. I see all this as a kidnapping of my children. She is not with the children and I am not with them. This is a kidnapping. Why do my children have to live like orphans? That is my problem. I cannot see my children anywhere and if they are buried somewhere, let them show me where they were buried so I can bring their bodies to my village.

“That’s what I’m saying; let me collect their dead bodies and bury them properly. She was busy parading Yul’s children on social media. I wouldn’t be so crazy if I had seen them on social media because I would know that my children are fine. I don’t think my children are still alive. I don’t think so. I’m just clamoring to have my children, not to have her back because her bride price has already been paid,” he added.

Threat to life

He further alleged that Ms Austin and her family threatened to kill him as he tried to gain access to his children.

She said she had approached the court, a human rights activists' office and the police station, but all her efforts were unsuccessful.

She said: “They blocked me in the police station, telling the police that they couldn’t do anything. They said they would take the file if I sued them and that nothing would happen. They said they could fire me at any time and that no one would stop them. For ten years, they have been threatening to kill me if I speak out. I have been patient, but now, ten years is enough. I want the world to know what killed me, as justice goes to the highest bidder.

“I got the police to arrest Judy’s father and brother and we moved with my children. In Nigeria, someone came to the police station and challenged the police, saying that I could not do anything and that they would eliminate me. In court, Judith’s two lawyers fought each other. One of them questioned why another was involved and the judge told them to sort it out, but they couldn’t. The court went on strike for eight months and the same lawyer was paying me monthly. Afterwards, the court went on strike again for three months. I was tired and risked my life because they were sending me threatening messages and calls, saying that they would kill me.”

Edochie remains silent

Mr Edochie has yet to respond to messages sent to his WhatsApp nor returned calls from this reporter as of the time of publication.

She later texted this reporter: “Who is it please?” after noticing a missed call.

The reporter responded to his message at 12:35pm, explaining the reason for the call, but Mr Edochie was yet to respond as of press time.

Background

This newspaper reported on July 19, 2023 that Ms Austin denied having an affair with Mr Edochie while she was still married to Mr Obasi.

Famous for starring in 'Native Girl,' she refuted the claims during a Facebook Live.

She said: “This is just my answer to the obvious question that has been doing the rounds. The question is, “Were you in your previous marriage when you met Yul Edochie?” The answer is no. That is the biggest lie that has been told about me on social media. My previous marriage ended in March 2013.

“I saw Yul Edochie for the first time. I mean, I saw him for the first time years after my previous marriage ended. So anyone who says otherwise is lying. If I am telling the truth, let all the curses and insults go back to the people who said it a billion times.”
