Twelve people are in big trouble because they might have killed a police officer named Christiana Erekere. A court in Port Harcourt said they should stay in jail for now.
These twelve people face 13 very serious charges. The most serious charges are about planning and killing someone.
Officer Erekere was killed on April 25, 2024. She was doing her job at a police checkpoint in a place called Taaba community in Rivers State. The people who might have killed her were on their way to a wedding in a place called Akwa-Ibom State.
Here’s what happened: The police stopped them to check their car papers. The papers didn’t look right, and things got out of hand. A big fight started, and sadly, Officer Erekere was killed.
The people in trouble include the groom named Efeoghene Uwheraka and others like Joy Uwhereka, Shirley Wealth, and Napoleon Uwhereka. There are also Ejiro Ejogbamu, Moses Agege, and Precious Iyota in trouble.
More people are involved too, like Kikelomo Odusanya, Wealth Ojoh, Ighofose Oke, Blessing Ovie, and Emeka Joshua.
All twelve people said they did not do it when they were asked in court.
The judge, Justice Augusta Chukwu, said they cannot go home on bail. The judge wants to look into the case quickly and set the next court date for October 8.
