A lot of cows have died because of a cow disease in Taraba State.
This happened last week in some small villages in Sardauna Local Government Area.
The affected villages are Dorofi, Kwarakwara, Furmi, and Mayo-Ngada.
Veterinary doctors say the cow disease causing these deaths is called haemorrhagic septicaemia.
Last weekend in Jalingo, the state capital, Professor Nicholas Namessan Oliver, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, confirmed the news. He said the state government has sent veterinary doctors to different villages to stop the disease.
The commissioner asked for help from the villagers so the veterinary doctors can treat and vaccinate the cows.
He also said that the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, is working hard to stop the disease from spreading to nearby villages.
The Local Government chairman, Salihu Yerima, thanked the governor for acting quickly. He promised that the council will do everything to help the vaccination team do their job well.
The Sarkin Fulani of the council, Alhaji Saidu Bawa, couldn’t say the exact number of cows that died, but he said over a thousand cows are dead because of the disease.
Audu Shehu Baju, the traditional ruler of the area, said he had informed the state government and the National Veterinary Centre about the outbreak earlier. He thanked the governor for quick action and asked for some help for the cow owners who lost their animals.
Some herders who spoke to our reporter pleaded with the state government to help them quickly to reduce the bad effects of this disaster.
