People in charge of education have decided that to get into a university, you need a minimum score of 140.
This decision was made during a meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
The head of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, explained that this score is not the same for all universities. This score is just the lowest any university can accept.
“JAMB doesn’t set the cut-off marks. We set a minimum score that universities must not go below. Each university can set their own higher scores,” Oloyede said.
Newslodge found out that different schools sent in their minimum scores to JAMB.
Some universities like Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos, Covenant University in Ogun State, Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State, and the University of Lagos want at least a score of 200 or more.
Oloyede also told Nigerians not to get confused about JAMB’s role. JAMB sets a minimum score, but each university can decide their own cut-off scores.
