The Court of Appeal in Abuja has agreed with the decision of the Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal. This tribunal had confirmed the re-election of Governor Douye Diri on November 11, 2023.
Three judges from the Court of Appeal all decided to turn down a request to overturn the Tribunal’s decision.
Remember, back on May 27, a tribunal led by Justice Adekunle Adeleye said a complaint against Governor Diri’s re-election, filed by the APC (All Progressives Congress) and its candidate, had no merit.
The reason the tribunal dismissed the complaint was because the APC and its candidate couldn’t provide strong evidence to support their claims about the election.
The APC and its candidate, Timipre Sylva, decided to appeal this decision, but the Court of Appeal said their appeal was not valid and was a misuse of the court’s time.
The judges said the appeal had no strong legal grounds to cancel the earlier decision of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
