Some leaders of local government areas in Osun State have started to quit their jobs.
They are quitting to get ready for the upcoming local government election on February 22, 2024.
The head of Osun’s electoral commission, OSSIEC, Hashim Abioye, announced the election date will be February 22, 2025.
OSSIEC also said they will hire new people to help run the election.
The first person to quit was Adewale Adeyinka, who was the leader of Odo-Otin Local Government.
Lukman Afolabi, the leader of Ede South Local Government, also quit his job. They both quit on Wednesday.
Adeyinka, in his letter dated July 17, 2024, said he quit to find more ways to help his people.
Afolabi said he quit to follow the rules after the Supreme Court ruling about local government money matters.
“Today, I stopped going to the office because I resigned to follow the law,” he wrote.
A person close to the government also confirmed that many leaders have quit to get ready for the February 22, 2025, election.
“Almost all local government leaders have quit their jobs to prepare for the election,” the person said.
