Chima Udoye wins season 9 of Nigerian Idol

Chima Udoye has been crowned the winner of Nigerian Idol season 9.

After months of competing with some of Nigeria’s top artists and vocalists who auditioned for the ninth season of Nigerian Idol, Udoye was crowned the winner of this year’s edition at the finale on Sunday night.

It was an intense final episode.

The live show began with the top 10 contestants taking the stage to perform John Legend’s “Glory.” Performances by the previous winners followed immediately after.

Progress, the winner of Nigerian Idol season 7, performed alongside the winner of Bigi Idol. Victory Gbakara, the winner of Nigerian Idol season 8, performed an original song he wrote before his finale. The night became more interesting with performances by guest artists like Chike and Simi and then the three finalists. Shortly after, the winner, Udoye, was crowned.

Udoye is known for his on-stage charisma and vocal talent, which has left judges 9ice, Omawumi and Ric Hassani speechless at every performance.

During the final performances, Omawumi noted that he competed against himself, which is a true testament to his rise in the show, proving how far he is capable of pushing the boundaries of competition.

Udoye, who specialises in jazz and soul, revealed at the start of the show that he hopes to showcase his vocal prowess and use the Nigerian Idol platform to inspire others. Twelve weeks later, he was crowned the winner.

Speaking at the final, Busola Tejumola, Managing Director of Content and Channels for MultiChoice West Africa, praised Chima as the emerging winner and highlighted its resilience in achieving this position.

Udoye received N30 million, a brand new SUV, DStv Explora and a one-year premium subscription. The grand prize also includes a music contract and a music video.
