The leader of the National Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has said again that they still want a minimum wage of N250,000. He said this after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
Ajaero talked to reporters after they had a closed-door meeting with the president. He said they are still asking for a new minimum wage.
He also mentioned they will have another meeting with the president soon, saying that they are still discussing the issue.
“We did not talk about the exact amount with the president. We still want N250,000 or N62,000 until we finish talking about it,” Ajaero told reporters in Abuja.
The president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Usifo, also said they want to talk directly with the president about the minimum wage rather than his representatives.
Usifo explained that they have had many talks with the president’s helpers, but now they need to talk to the president himself because he makes the final decisions.
He also said that they agreed to meet with the president again next week to continue their discussion.
“We met with the president because he is in charge. We have talked to his helpers, but now we want to speak to the ‘father of the nation.’
“We presented all our points and discussed the economy. At the end, the president shared his thoughts, and we agreed to talk again next week,” Usifo said.

Leaders from the NLC and TUC met with President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, July 11, at the presidential villa to talk about a new minimum wage.
The NLC and TUC representatives came in a white Toyota Hiace Bus at 2pm and went straight to the president’s office.
They had an hour-long meeting about the new minimum wage.
The meeting will continue next week. Joe Ajaero, the NLC president, said they still want a N250,000 minimum wage.
