Edo: Taskforce Apprehends 42-Year-Old Woman for Attempted Trafficking of Woman to India

The Edo State Taskforce on Human Trafficking has arrested a 42-year-old named Juliet Ukhurebor because they think she was involved in human trafficking.

The DAILY POST said that the officials caught Juliet at her shrine in Benin City. They also found a native pot with some strange plants and items inside it.

Mrs. Pauline Irusota, the Secretary of the taskforce, told the news reporters in Benin City about the arrest. She said Juliet was arrested with another person called Joy Osawe.

Irusota explained that they arrested the suspects after a woman named Rita Godwin, who is 25 years old, reported them.

Rita said that Juliet and her daughter, who lives in India, made fake Ghanaian passports and other papers to send people to India illegally.

Irusota further explained that Juliet had already managed to send one girl, named Juliet Osagie, to India.

The Secretary of the taskforce said that Juliet only told the victims after making them take an oath that they were actually being sent to India for prostitution.

Rita, who had learned about what was really going on, refused to go to Abuja for the trip to India.

“When Rita refused to travel to India, Juliet and a native doctor from Enugu State started to threaten her. They were saying she needed to pay N8 million because they had spent that money to make her travel documents,” Irusota said.

The officials arrested Juliet at her shrine and recovered the native pot and its contents as evidence.

Juliet Ukhurebor, the main suspect, spoke in an interview. She said she made her victims swear an oath before they traveled so they would not disobey her.

Juliet said the oath was just to scare the victims so they wouldn’t run away or act differently when they reached her daughter in India.

“I was following my daughter’s orders. She lives in India and wanted a female nanny from Nigeria. She asked me to have them take an oath so they wouldn’t run away or refuse to pay her back for their travel documents,” Juliet explained.
