Rivers: 27 Wike-aligned lawmakers ousted, 2025 budget presentation imminent – Fubara

Must Read

On Wednesday, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, announced that the troubled members of the state House of Assembly who supported the previous governor, Nyesom Wike, are no longer in their positions.

DAILY POST remembered that because of political problems in the state, 27 lawmakers who moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) had their seats declared empty.

A Federal High Court in Rivers State had also told the Martin Amaewhule-led lawmakers to stop acting like members of the state Assembly.

However, last week on Wednesday, the Court of Appeal in Abuja brought back the lawmakers after dismissing the lower court’s decision.

The decision was made by a three-person panel of the appellate court led by Jimi Olukayode-Bada.

After that, the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led group in the assembly, which supports Governor Fubara, said they have appealed to the Supreme Court to challenge the Appeal Court’s decision.

While talking to the people of Ogbakor Etche who visited him in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Governor Fubara insisted that these lawmakers are no longer in their positions.

He said, “They think that we are still asleep but let me tell you so they can hear it wherever they are. I honestly wanted to help them, and I have said this before.

“These are people I have helped. I paid for their children’s school fees and their house rents. My father worked with Shell from 2005 when I started working in finance.

“Before I started working here, I was even a Shell manager, so I wasn’t a beggar. I had enough to support others.

“I wanted to help them. We all know what happened when they switched sides and they switched because of our God so that they could make that mistake. They are gone and they are gone.”

The governor also shared that he is currently working on the 2025 budget, which will be presented to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led assembly soon.

“As I am talking to you, I have started preparing my budget for 2025, which I will present very soon,” he added.
