NAFDAC seizes counterfeit products worth N20 million

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said it has seized substandard, counterfeit and banned agrochemicals in major markets in Sokoto.

NAFDAC disclosed this on Monday, saying that goods worth over N20 million were seen around the old market, Kara market and the central market.

According to the agency, the operation conducted by its Federal Investigative and Enforcement Task Force on Counterfeit Drugs and Unhealthy Processed Foods led to the arrest of four suspects.

The agency said it raided 17 stores during the operation and seized boxes of “endocoton super containing banned Paraquat.”

“Paraquat is a highly toxic herbicide that poses significant risks to health and the environment,” the statement reads in part.

The NAFDAC raid resulted in the seizure of 2,096 cartons of SF MOE soap, 223 cartons of SF Oxxo Purest soap and unregistered herbal preparations with pornographic images, posing risks to public health.

“The detained individuals are being investigated and the confiscated products will be processed in accordance with regulations for substandard and counterfeit products,” the agency said.
