Seun Kuti, a famous Afrobeat artist who got a Grammy nomination, made a big claim about his band, Egypt 80. He got this band from his father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who started Afrobeat music.
In a chat with City 105.1 FM, Seun said Egypt 80 is the best band in Africa. He feels very proud to be the band’s leader. He also said he speaks his mind without fear because he knows no one can scare him. He thinks the media and award people in Africa don’t pay attention to his music.
Seun said, “I will keep talking about what I believe. I am not scared of what anyone can do to me. What can you do? Stop playing my music videos? You are already doing that! So what else can you do?”
“Even though I got a Grammy nomination, no African award group nominated my band for anything. It’s clear that my band, Egypt 80, is the most successful band in Africa. We have made 54 albums, and my next one will be number 55.
“My band is like a school for African music. If people in Africa understood this, they would honor the band. They should keep the band famous so that Africans everywhere know they can create something great like this. But, only an African who understands this will see its value.”
