Canada Reduces Eligibility Score for Skilled Workers Seeking Permanent Residency

Must Read

Canada’s Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently invited 920 people to apply for permanent residency. These invitations are part of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) through the Express Entry system.

This latest selection took place on July 2, 2024, and required candidates to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739. Canada is doing this to bring skilled workers from all over the world, adding to its diverse and strong economy.

Earlier, on June 19, 2024, another draw took place where IRCC invited 1,499 people under the PNP, with a lower minimum CRS score of 663.

That lower score from the June draw shows how flexible the Express Entry system is. It tries to give chances to people with various CRS scores. There’s also a tie-breaking rule to make it fair, giving priority to profiles submitted earlier if multiple people have the same lowest CRS score.

As of July 2, 2024, there are many people in the Express Entry pool with different CRS scores. Most people have scores in the 451-500 range. Specifically, there are: 940 candidates with 601-1200 scores, 16,521 candidates with 501-600 scores, 64,761 candidates with 451-500 scores, and fewer in the lower ranges.

Things You Should Know

The Provincial Nominee Program is a big opportunity for skilled workers wanting to live in Canada permanently. This program lets provinces and territories choose people based on their skills, education, and work experience.

Selected candidates must show they can help the province or territory’s economy where they are nominated. Different provinces and territories have their own programs within the PNP. They look for groups like students, businesspeople, skilled workers, and semi-skilled workers. These programs meet local job market needs and ensure a steady flow of skilled people to strengthen local economies.

More Details

The Express Entry system managed by IRCC is the main way for skilled immigrants to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

This system includes various immigration programs such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Provincial Nominee Program.

People in the Express Entry pool are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This ranking system gives points for things like age, education, work experience, and language skills.

The CRS score decides if a candidate can get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. Every two weeks or so, there are draws with a specific cut-off score that candidates need to meet or exceed to get an ITA.
